Finding Oneself Portrait Session 3

Finding Oneself will be popping up at Joybird Books once again. “Finding Oneself” is an ongoing project based on creating space for reflection through photography and journaling. You’ll come, sit for a photo by portrait photographer David Lawrencs, and then be given some journal prompts to self reflect. Afterwards, you’ll be able to take both the photo and prompts home to keep reflecting. There is also the opportunity to have your images/journal entries archived to be shared with the community! Participation is donation based with some of the proceeds going towards the book store!

Game of Shrooms

Artists across the globe will be hiding art on Saturday, June 10, as part of a one-day art hunt called Game of Shrooms.

On June 10th, artists from all over the world hide their original mushroom-themed works in public places then they give hints (often on social media) for others to find. Then on June 11th (or June 10th, if artists place and post about them on the 10th) they're yours to find and keep!

Blackout Poetry Workshop

Blackout Poetry Workshop, 5:30 p.m., for Poemville at Joybird Books! What is Blackout Poetry? In brief, it’s taking existing writing and redacting parts of it to reveal new thoughts or ideas.

Any text can be turned into a blackout poem. All you need is a marker or some other instrument that allows you to cover over existing words.

All in all there are really only four steps:

Identify the text you want to blackout.

Draw boxes over meaningful words, images, phrases, and ideas.

Draw an image outline or arrows for reading the text, if necessary.

Color it in!
