Celebrating Community Through Poetry

Each year, Audubon Park Garden District partners with Audubon Park K-8 School in the month of April to bring Poemville to life, a unique initiative connecting students, poetry, and the local community. Through Poemville, students across various grades work with teachers to create poems inspired by their environment, experiences, and local surroundings, bringing their voices to spaces all around the district.

Poemville projects have left a creative mark on local businesses and community spaces. One installation focused on birds with poems featured in our neighborhood bookstore, and another celebrated cheese with sweet, heartfelt lines at the local cheeseshop. Student poems highlighting butterflies and their essential host plants were even installed in a garden center, adding layers of education to its natural setting. The installations, always free and accessible, offer moments of reflection and connection in everyday spaces, inviting all who pass by to pause and appreciate.

This year, we aim to expand Poemville's impact. By seeking grant funding, we hope to support larger installations and commission works from local poets, amplifying Poemville’s reach and engaging our community even further. Through these efforts, we look forward to fostering a deeper appreciation of poetry and creativity in The APGD for residents and visitors alike.
